Immortality

Having been locked in battle with the current owner of the fortress Durvalein, Inathiel and her allies managed to defeat the enraged necromancer, but not before he stunned both Falnon and Christopher with his dark magic. Just as the woman was about to try and help her subordinates, the spirit of the man attacked her in an attempt to possess her.

As the two magicians focused their energy, strands of pure energy of both red and blue colors had wrapped all around them, both of them trying to drain the life energy of the other. While Christopher couldn't do anything as he still lied lifeless on the floor, Falnon yelled out to Inathiel as the red strands of the ghost seemed to grow larger.

"Hey, don't go dying on me here, you crazy bitch!! Fight him!!" Hearing this, Inathiel grinned a bit, her own magic getting stronger as she channeled more power into her spell and thus managed to rid the ghost of his advantage. Seeing this, the spirit yelled out in anger as thoughts of being defeated and sealed off somehow began to fill his mind.

"NO!! I will not die like this!!" Just then, the man stopped the casting of his spell, being drained away by Inathiel's magic as the strands became filled with his energy and then disappeared along with the ghost itself. Inathiel and Falnon was surprised by this, but the woman then realized that something had gone horribly wrong.

"He did that on purpo-" Suddenly, Inathiel fell over on her knees and flinched from pain, a familiar voice speaking out to her. "It seems that you underestimated me in your elven arrogance, you freakish half-breed. Now, I will use your power and skills to get my revenge as well as finish my research."

The possessed Inathiel then turned to look at Falnon, her eyes having a hazy grey color over the irises and her voice being that of the necromancer whom she had fought against. "Now, Falnon Gallagher. I will finally be able to avenge my master and finish what he had started all those years ago..."

Hearing all of this, Falnon desperately struggled to get up, turning to look at Christopher before glaring at Inathiel again, seeing her hands glowing with pale blue light. As the paralyzed hunter kept struggling, the possessed woman laughed and placed her hands forward, speaking in a smug tone as the area around Falnon began to turn colder.

"This is a rather ironic death you will suffer, mister Gallagher. Especially when you consider that your superior speed was a key factor in killing my mast-" But before the man could talking and finishing the spell, Inathiel's hands ignited in flames as the woman herself began to fight against his control over her body.

Speaking out to the necromancer with a fiendish, bellowing voice full of anger, her soul lashed out at his as her devil blood amplified her power. "You thought you could take control of my body and soul? You, a mere human?! I am the spawn of a devil, a child of the beings who have mastered the control of mortal souls eons ago."

Losing his control over Inathiel's body, the man yelled out in anguish and fear through Inathiel's body as the woman's soul began tearing his apart from the inside. "No, stop!! I'll leave you be, I'll even go to Hell if you want me to!! Just don't..." Ignoring the man's begging, Inathiel's soul silenced him by stabbing a clawed hand through his neck.

She then casted a simple spell, draining away his soul and sealing him within herself, all the while hearing him beg for mercy and release. Falnon looked on in confusion as the mental battle came to an end, seeing Inathiel having been stunned and standing still the whole time, her eyes returning to normal after a moment.

As the necromancer's spirit was sealed away by Inathiel, his spell also broke, curing Falnon and Christopher of their paralyzed state as the dark spears that had pierced them faded into nothingness. Seeing this, Falnon quickly jumped up and looked at Inathiel with a grin on his face. "You sure you ain't gonna start sounding like a man again?"

Frowning at what she perceived to be a poor joke, she then nodded and turned to look at Christopher, clearly worried about him as she leaned down to his side and placed her hand on his chest. "This is where the spear was." Seeing that the wound had healed, she then stepped back as the man slowly got up, shaking his head a bit as he awakened.

Having apparently been in a partly conscious state the whole time, the man spoke out in a distraught tone. "Mistress Inathiel, forgive me for my incompetence. I should have known that he was ready to exploit my weaknesses as a vampire..." Sighing at this, Inathiel stood back up and spoke out to him in response.

"Do not worry about it. Now, you two should keep an eye out for more undead around here. I wish to see for myself what this man had in mind when he spoke about immortality."
The 28th chapter of the Tales of Inathiel is here! Now, the conclusion of the battle has been witnessed, but there are still things that need to be looked into in the fortress. What will Inathiel and company find? And what will happen to the necromancer's soul? And what is his name, anyway?
