Veil of Darkness

Another incident at Gensokyo had been solved by Reimu Hakurei, placing the land in a time of peace which had been lasting for the last few months. While the girl enjoyed the quiet times, the tengu of Youkai Mountain noticed signs of a new incident appearing in the form of a large temple at the base of the mountain, near the Waterfall of Nine Heavens. At the same time, a girl around Reimu's age had been seen leaving the shrine with a mysterious lady with two differently colored eyes.

The girl's hair was light brown and cut short while her eyes were green in color, and she wore a red hakama with a simple white top and flowing red armpieces attached to her wrists while also carrying a shakujō with her. The lady accompanying her had midnight blue hair reaching slightly past her shoulders in length, and a slight smile on her face. Her left eye was yellow and her right eye was red, and she was wearing a complex yet regal black and white outfit known as a sokutai.

Rumours began to spread, though they were ignored up until something began to happen in the Human Village. News of humans starting to grow more violent for no apparent reason begun to emerge among the tengu newsreporters, and eventually even Reimu could not ignore this as she sat outside her shrine reading the latest article. "Unusual amounts of human aggression? Could that really be right?" Just then, her attention turned to a familiar youkai standing before her.

Yukari Yakumo herself had taken note of the unusual occurences, and told Reimu that even the local youkai have started turning feral around the Forest of Magic. "You should do something about this before things start getting serious. It's already enough of a pain that I had to wake up just to tell you this." As she then turned around and left through a portal she had formed, the shrine maiden wondered why she didn't just send Ran to bring her the news instead.

Her moment of contemplation was cut short as Marisa and the former shrine maiden Soga no Kuniko arrived at the scene, both of them walking over to her before simultaneously starting to talk. They both told of mass hysteria near their homes, to which Reimu soon responded as she got up and interrupted the two of them, swiping the air with her right hand. "I've heard enough! Someone's causing trouble again, so apparently I'll have to go and teach them a lesson."

Just as she flew off, Marisa flew towards the Human Village while Kuniko decided to follow Reimu while raising an eyebrow at the shrine maiden's sudden decision. "You're already sure of who the culprit is?" The girl responded in a blunt tone that she's merely guessing that the one person in the temple had something to do with it, not noticing Marisa joining them. However, both turned to look at the magician as she spoke out to them with sweat running down her face.

"Whoever is doing this needs to be stopped fast. They're starting to pick fights with each other back at the village, and the air there feels creepy for some reason." While they continued on deeper into the Forest of Magic, the group is soon ambushed by fairies that are exterminated as quickly as they had shown up, causing Reimu to let out a sigh. "Don't these things ever learn?" The group then stopped as something else approached them, a small youkai covered in darkness.

Standing in the middle of the dark cloud was a familiar girl with short blonde hair and red eyes. Much to the confusion of the three, Rumia had nothing witty to say this time as she grinned at them in a wicked manner and began to fire a barrage of danmaku around her. Dodging the random barrage of energy bullets, Reimu moved ahead to retaliate with Marisa while Kuniko observed curiously, her gaze narrowing as she looked into the youkai in the shadows.

"I've seen this one around before, but something's not exactly right here." She then began to call forth flames at the youkai, deciding to check the situation after the threat has been neutralized.
